#523: The leaves came into the oak trees today…

The leaves came into the oak trees today
and I almost missed it. I looked up and
in a moment they sprouted into full
bloom as if on cue. This was no time lapse
trick of technology, no, just my eyes
deciding that they should turn up the gaze
skyward to the tops of these glorious
beings. And, Christ, I almost missed it.
Walking up the drive a dozen things of
little import might have distracted me:
the gravel and grass need weeding, a mow,
the feeders are empty, those crazy squirrels.
From all the detritus the mind will coax,
attention must be paid to mighty oaks.
