#567: Dream Song Sonnet with An Extra Couplet

The drummer reaches the end of the song
but can’t remember having played the bridge.
He thinks to himself, as he prepares for the
next tune, did we mess up the arrangement?
Did we all make the same mistake or was
it just me? He doesn’t recall any strange looks
from his bandmates, no side-eyes or scowls,
the usual indication of a major screw-up.
The drummer calls the singer over for a quick
huddle in between songs. He says, how did
that go? Was it okay? And she says, without
any sign of sarcasm or alarm: It was just fine.
The truth is that the band has become used
to the drummer falling asleep mid-song.

A special kind of narcolepsy allows him to
perform almost perfectly while unconscious.
