#518: Sonnet After Beers, with Laundry

The washer and the dryer now sing songs
when the cycle is done, and I don’t know
why that was a necessary feature,
as if it’s not enough to hear them stop.
I’m doing laundry in the basement now
after having had a few I.P.A.s
and exhausted late night YouTube views of
comedy shows and the most recent news
all concerning the hush money Trump trial.
I just can’t tear myself away from it,
I hope every last detail brings him down
and destroys his last election chances.
But then I remember I have to write
a sonnet for the day before midnight!
