#735: The Teacher, April 3, 2026

The Teacher, April 3, 2026

Tries to stop his students
from thinking. Tries to inspire
all manner of bad habits.
Encourages errors of every
stripe and color. Stop ending
your sentences with a period,
he says. Use the passive voice
whenever possible and spelling
these days is overrated. Verb tense
agreement is passé and who ever
heard of a question mark.
There’s no reason for learning
to write and speak and think
because artificial intelligence
will do for writing and speaking
and thinking what the calculator did
for arithmetic, that is, make it
completely unnecessary. No,
he says, you don’t have to
remember anything. No, please
do not take notes. Absolutely
nothing, he says, will be on the test.
