Over the last year and a half or so,
I have rediscovered the joy of it,
the making of music with a good friend,
a friend I had not seen for twenty-five years.
From three thousand miles away, he’d begin.
He’d send me these tracks, a bass and a click,
some keyboard flourishes, and I’d import
them into my home studio system.
And then I’d begin to play along, record
drums, write words, sing vocals, and I would mix.
I would send back to him a complete song.
One year: we made a whole album that way.
It feels sometimes like we’ve never been apart,
how natural and right it was to make this art.
