#510: This Poem Will Not Really Be Complete Until…

I love those videos where
a musician has taken
a piece of oratory that is
innocent of being musical,
transcribes it, and then
plays along to it in a
rhythmically and melodically
precise manner to create a new
piece of music from the source
material. Zappa did it first,
but recently it’s become
a thing on the video socials.
I saw a guy today playing guitar
to a Taylor Swift interview.
I’ve seen it done
on the drums as well.
And I thought on many
occasions that here’s an
exercise I’d like to try.
I wrote this poem and
spoke it and tried to drum
to it and I failed miserably.
My limitations as a drummer
or as a poet made it too hard.
So this poem will not
really be complete, may
not ever be complete,
until you’ve heard it and seen it.
Reading it will not do.
So stop reading, please.
