#425: Instructions for Winning (a poem on April 19, 2022)

Get out of the way.
Get out of your own way.
You’re in the way.
The only trouble,
the only obstacle,
the only real competition
is you.
It’s become a cliché,
hackneyed, overdone,
a truism that nevertheless
holds true–
unless, of course, it doesn’t.
And there may be
times and places
where and when
whatever is stopping
you from whatever
it is you’re trying to do
might be a gorilla,
a tsunami,
a cancer,
or a ten-ton truck,
or an army,
or a corrupt society,
but EVEN then,
you have choices,
don’t you?
How do you want
to live? Decide,
and move forward.
Move forward
despite of or in spite of
the gorillas,
ten-ton trucks,
and most crucially,
despite of or in spite of
your big bad self.
